In cooperation with the Department of Labor’s Office of Apprenticeship, the Urban Institute and a variety of industry, labor, and education partners have been building competency-based frameworks for apprenticeships in a wide array of occupations. 

They provide a ready-made framework that employers and others can use to facilitate the more efficient development of an apprenticeship. These frameworks are not linked to any one employer or group of employers. They are not proprietary and are available as a tool to all. The goals of this work include producing and disseminating scores of competency-based frameworks widely, helping employers use them to launch programs, and broadening the number and scope of apprenticeships in this country.
